Potty Training Made Simple

Potty training is often the biggest challenge for new owners, but consistency and patience can make it a stress-free process. In the U.S., the most successful method is a combination of crate training and frequent outdoor breaks. A puppy usually needs to go outside immediately after waking up, within fifteen minutes of eating or drinking, and after any vigorous play session.

Positive reinforcement is far more effective than punishment. When your puppy successfully goes outside, offer immediate praise or a small treat to reinforce the behavior. If an accident happens indoors—and it will—clean it up with an enzymatic cleaner to remove the scent, as puppies are naturally drawn back to the same spots. Never scold a puppy for an old accident; they won't understand why you are upset, which can lead to anxiety and hide-and-seek bathroom habits.
