Teething and Puppy Biting

Puppies explore the world with their mouths, which means teething can be a painful stage for both the puppy and your furniture. Around 12 to 16 weeks of age, their adult teeth begin to push through, causing discomfort that leads to chewing and nipping. Providing appropriate outlets for this behavior is essential to save your shoes and fingers from sharp puppy teeth.

Redirecting is the most effective way to manage biting. If your puppy nips your hand, let out a high-pitched "ouch" and immediately offer them a cold chew toy or a rubber ring designed for teething. Frozen carrots or damp, frozen washcloths can also provide soothing relief for sore gums. Consistency is key: everyone in the household must follow the same rules so the puppy learns that human skin is never a chew toy.
